Radio frequency identification technology (RFID) in internal industrial logistics: exploratory research at a machining company for the aerospace sector

Resumo: Applications related to materials management are disseminating Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology around the world. The scope of this technology enables managers to control several business processes and solutions for daily traceability. This article explores RFID applications in internal machining environment logistics where the use of barcode labels does not meet all the detection, identification and traceability needs. This study is classified as exploratory and was conducted in 2007, at a machined components industry for the aerospace sector. This study analyzes the deployment and use of this technology. Hopefully, the learning process that results from this study will disseminate experiences and practices in the use of RFID. Keywords: RFID; materials management; traceability; internal logistic.

Keywords: RFID; materials management; traceability; internal logistic.A Tecnologia de Identificação por Radiofrequência (RFID) está se disseminando mundialmente, principalmente nas aplicações referentes à administração de materiais. A abrangência dessa tecnologia permite aos gestores aplicações em vários processos de negócios e soluções, referentes à rastreabilidade e controle . Este artigo apresenta impactos da aplicação de RFID na logística interna. O estudo é delimitado a processos de usinagem, onde, atualmente, a utilização de etiquetas de códigos de barra não atende às necessidades de detecção, identificação e rastreabilidade dos materiais envolvidos, devido às condições ambientais inapropriadas, como, por exemplo, a presença de óleos e contaminantes nas peças e dispositivos. Este estudo classifica-se como exploratório e foi realizado no ano de 2007, em uma indústria de componentes usinados para o setor aeroespacial, o qual analisa a implantação e uso desta tecnologia em seus processos. Espera-se neste artigo, que o aprendizado resultante deste estudo, permita a disseminação de experiências e práticas do uso do RFID.
