Contributions from Systemic Theory to Information Science: subsidies for the planning and management of Information Retrieval Systems

This article aims to identify the contributions of Systemic Theory to Information Science, and subsequently present a conceptual theoretical model dedicated to the planning and management of Information Retrieval Systems, in the sense of seeking solutions to a recurring problem: delivering relevant content to the user. It considers Information Retrieval Systems as open and complex systems, therefore, there is a need to develop theoretical studies that contribute to a holistic view of its processes and components or subsystems. It uses bibliographic review. Discusses the interdisciplinary nature of Information Science and its possible connections with Systemic Theory. It concludes that the contributions of the Systemic Theory to Information Science are concentrated in the studies of five thematic axes: Information and knowledge management; Historical and Epistemological Studies of Information Science; Organization and Knowledge Representation; Information and Technology, Politics and Economics Information. It presents a conceptual theoretical model that allows understanding the research fields surrounding Information Retrieval Systems, seeking solutions for their subsystems to be developed and managed jointly / dialectically, and in the same way contribute to the implementation of more efficient search engines.
