Description and Information Representation of Works of Art in Museum Collections

Resumo: | Representation of information in art faces a problem, the lack of depth in descriptions. The present study has a quantitative approach, descriptive character, experimental design and cross-sectional. Its objective is to analyze the process of description for the representation of information about works of art in museum collections. Among its methodological procedures are individual in-depth interviews, as a method for data collection and guided technical visits. To achieve its purpose, the DOMUS ARTIUM; Museum of Salamanca; Art Nouveau and Art Deco Museum - Casa Lis; Salamanca Cathedral Archive; and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba collections are characterized and description practices of the selected institutions are analyzed, through the websites and databases. Description behavior lacks the required level of depth. Therefore, languages, norms and conceptual models for description must be used coherently and evolve even further. Application of semantic and interdisciplinary methods is extremely important to achieve a more precise and logically structured sense of information, to reveal new knowledge and to offer interoperable data on museological collections, which can be retrieved efficiently, thus for obtaining a greater depth in the study of works of art. |

El presente estudio tiene un enfoque cuantitativo, de carácter descriptivo, diseño experimental y transversal. Su objetivo es analizar el proceso de descripción para la representación de información sobre obras de arte en colecciones de museos. Entre sus procedimientos metodológicos se encuentran las entrevistas individuales en profundidad como método de recolección de datos y las visitas técnicas guiadas. Para lograr su finalidad, se caracterizan las colecciones y se analizan prácticas de descripción, a través de los sitios web y bases de datos del DOMUS ARTIUM; Museo de Salamanca; Museo de Art Nouveau y Art Déco - Casa Lis; Archivo de la Catedral de Salamanca; y el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Cuba. El comportamiento de descripción no tiene el nivel de profundidad necesario. Por lo tanto, los lenguajes, estándares y modelos conceptuales de descripción deben usarse de manera coherente y evolucionar aún más. La aplicación de métodos semánticos e interdisciplinarios es de suma importancia para lograr un sentido de la información más preciso y lógicamente estructurado, revelar nuevos conocimientos y ofrecer datos interoperables sobre colecciones museables, que puedan ser recuperados de manera efectiva, obteniendo así una mayor profundidad en el estudio de las obras de arte.A representação de informação no mundo da arte enfrenta o problema da ausência de profundidade nas descrições. O presente estudo tem abordagem quantitativa, caráter descritivo, desenho experimental e corte transversal. Seu objetivo é analisar o processo de descrição para a representação de informação sobre obras de arte nos acervos dos museus. Entre seus procedimentos metodológicos estão à entrevista individual em profundidade (in-depth interviews), como método para coleta de dados e as visitas técnicas guiadas. Para alcançar seu propósito, caracterizam-se as coleções e analisam-se as práticas de descrição, por meio dos sites e bases de dados do DOMUS ARTIUM; Museu de Salamanca; Museu Art Nouveau e Art Déco - Casa Lis; Arquivo da Catedral de Salamanca; e do Museu Nacional de Belas Artes de Cuba. O comportamento da descrição não tem o nível de profundidade necessário. Portanto, as linguagens, normas e modelos conceituais para a descrição devem ser utilizados coerentemente e evoluir ainda mais.
