Resumo: The objective of the present article is to undertake analisys of the relation established between the ISEB intellectuals and the Brazillian cultural production in the fifties and sixties, because it was pointed out in this sphere an important spreading element, which the ISEB intellectuals named critical conscience. Considering that culture, as a set of artistical manifestations, along with educational activity, could approximate the mass population to the reality of the country, this sphere started to be gradually highlighted and stimulated by several “isebians”, who, without losing the political sphere off sight, choose to fight for culture as the main transforming element of the Brazilian society.

A finalidade do presente artigo é empreender uma análise da relação estabelecida entre os intelectuais do ISEB e a produção cultural brasileira nos anos cinqüenta e sessenta, pois se vislumbrava nesta esfera um importante elemento difusor daquilo que um intelectual isebiano denominava consciência crítica.
