Comfort women: an analysis on prostitution in the Second World War (1939-1945)

Resumo: In order to investigate the experience of women in the Asian scenario of the Second World War (1939-1945), the general objective of the research is to analyze the role of comfort women in the war scenario; and as specific objectives of (i) characterizing the role of these women in the Japanese security strategy; (ii) describe the concepts of militarized prostitution, militarized rape and comfort women; and (iii) identify the factors responsible for the creation of comfort women. The first section presents a feminist theoretical contribution on the role of women in war scenarios. In the second, the concepts of militarized prostitution and comfort women are worked on. The third presents the historical context regarding the development of this war practice. In the end, comfort women is configured as a war practice adopted by the Japanese state that regulates the conduct of its armed forces.

La primera sección presenta un aporte teórico feminista sobre el rol de la mujer en escenarios de guerra. En el segundo, se trabajan los conceptos de prostitución militarizada y mujeres de solaz. El tercero presenta el contexto histórico respecto al desarrollo de esta práctica bélica. Al final, las mujeres de solaz se configuran como una práctica de guerra adoptada por el estado japonés que regula la conducta de sus fuerzas armadas.Para investigar a experiência de mulheres no cenário asiático da Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945), a pesquisa tem como objetivo geral analisar o papel das mulheres conforto no cenário de guerra; e como objetivos específicos de (i) caracterizar o papel dessas mulheres na estratégia de segurança japonesa; (ii) descrever os conceitos de prostituição militarizada, estupro militarizado e mulheres de conforto; e (iii) identificar os fatores responsáveis pela criação das mulheres de conforto. Na primeira seção apresenta-se um aporte teórico feminista sobre o papel das mulheres em cenários de guerra. Na segunda são trabalhados os conceitos de prostituição militarizada e mulheres de conforto. A terceira apresenta o contexto histórico referente ao desenvolvimento dessa prática de guerra.
