Summary: This article attempts to problematize the role of military in politics, with a view to building the national ideology from the speeches of Olavo Bilac. These speeches offer the Military Service as a factor of national unity, according to the controversial concept of national interest. Looks the extent to which the Army serves as a party, but with a speech that includes the country as a whole. Accordingly, we raise some questions about the possible ramifications of compulsory military service in its phase of consolidation.

Estes discursos propõem o Serviço Militar como fator de unidade nacional, segundo o conceito polêmico de interesse nacional. Buscaremos verificar, em que medida o Exército atua como partido, mas com um discurso que contempla o país como um todo.
