Death Becomes Her: Capitalism in Crisis and Imperialism

Resumo: In the article we present an interpretation of the relationship between crises, imperialism, and social critique connecting two distinct historical periods: the period of formulation of the classical theory of imperialism and the current period. Our objective was to understand how Marxism responded to the crisis that led to World War I and how this response could serve to face our current impasses. We emphasize that the Covid-19 pandemic, the climate emergency, and imperialist tensions are intertwined dimensions of the contemporary crisis of capital, whose parallel with the historical process experienced by Marxism at the beginning of the last century must be found in the imminence of barbarism and the need for radical criticism.

Nuestro objetivo era comprender cómo respondió el marxismo a la crisis que desembocó en la Primera Guerra Mundial y cómo esta respuesta podría servir para afrontar los impasses actuales. Destacamos que la pandemia de la Covid-19, la emergencia climática y las tensiones imperialistas son dimensiones entrelazadas de la crisis contemporánea del capital, cuyo paralelo con el proceso histórico vivido por el marxismo a principios del siglo pasado debe encontrarse en la inminencia de la barbarie y la necesidad de una crítica radical.No artigo apresentamos uma interpretação sobre a relação entre crises, imperialismo e crítica social conectando dois períodos históricos distintos: o da formulação da teoria clássica do imperialismo e o período atual. Nosso objetivo foi entender como o marxismo respondeu à crise que levou à Primeira Guerra e como essa resposta poderia servir para enfrentarmos os impasses atuais.
