Resumo: This text aims to present the reading and analysis of the political and economic developments and procedures in the process of construction of a hydroelectric plant in the waters of the Panduí River, in Amambai/MS, Brazil, in the 1950s. The adopted methodology was exploratory and bibliographical research, conducted through readings of regional historiography and scientific articles; memorialist reports, press and oral sources, with interviews. Studies which have led to the conclusion that the construction of the hydroelectric plant generated a series of environmental impacts that led to the most varied demographic and hydrographic changes which have affected and still crucially affect the course of the waters of the Panduí River.
