The tripartition of rhetoric in the cynicism of Diogenes of Synope

Resumo: Cynicism was notable in ancient times for being a school marked by χρεῖαι. They constitute a certain historical, literary and philosophical value because they narrate the way of life of the cynical philosophers. When looking at χρεῖαι it is possible to find a very peculiar way of doing philosophy – by way of humor. Diogenes, using a unique rhetorical device, implements what we call laughter pedagogy, a way of conveying the school's philosophical principles by using comics. This article proposes an analysis and structuring of Diogenes' performance rhetoric through χρεῖαι.

Elas constituem um certo valor histórico, literário e filosófico por narrarem o modo de vida dos filósofos cínicos. Ao nos debruçarmos sobre as χρεῖαι é possível encontrar um modo bem peculiar de se fazer filosofia – através do humor. Diógenes, usando de um expediente retórico único implementa o que chamamos de pedagogia do riso, uma forma de transmitir os princípios filosóficos da escola através do cômico.
