Resumo: This paper has, a central focus, analyze the development and formation process of road passenger transport on the western portion in the Brazilian Southern region, on here denominated by Southern Frontier. Has described and analyzed the characteristics of the fixes and flows, in a period between the 1940s and 1980s. It starts with the method of geographic science and its capacity for historical reflection. The methodological stages included theoretical and thematic bibliographical reviews, analysis of iconographic materials, research in newspaper and periodicals and obtaining data in statistical reports. The exhibition is structured around four main items: it starts with the role played by road transport in the integration of the Brazilian territory; then there is an exhibition on socio-spatial training in Southern Frontier; advances to a synthesis of the formation process of passenger transport by bus services; finally, the flows produced from the road transport of passengers, their typologies and topologies are analyzed.

São descritas e analisadas as características dos fixos e fluxos da atividade, num período entre as décadas de 1940 e 1980. Parte-se do método da ciência geográfica e a sua capacidade de reflexão histórica. As etapas metodológicas contaram com revisões bibliográficas teóricas e temáticas, análise de materiais iconográficos, pesquisa em jornais e periódicos e obtenção de dados em relatórios estatísticos.
