Resumo: The present work aims to analyze the exclusion of North American white women from the literary field in the American countercultural movement of the Beat Generation through Joyce Johnson’s works “Come and Join the Dance” and “Minor Characters”. By means of Le Goff’s (2013) concepts of document/monument and memory, we justify the historicity of literary works and demonstrate that Johnson’s novel and memoir are key to rediscovering the forgotten history of the women who, when refusing the American conformity of the 1950’s, chose to get involved with authors who were revolutionary in their own ways, but who repeated patterns of female exclusion.

Universidade Estadual do Paraná2022-05-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unespar.edu.br/nupem/article/view/485410.33871/nupem.2022.14.32.137-150Revista NUPEM; Vol. 14 No. 32 (2022): Dossier: The (auto)biographical space: individuals, memory and society; 137-150Revista NUPEM; Vol. 14 Núm. 32 (2022): Dossier: El espacio (auto)biográfico: individuo, memoria y sociedad; 137-150Revista NUPEM; v. 14 n. 32 (2022): Dossiê: O espaço (auto)biográfico: indivíduo, memória e sociedade; 137-1502176-79122175-7429reponame:Revista NUPEM (Online)instname:Universidade Estadual do Paraná (UNESPAR)instacron:UNESPARporhttps://periodicos.unespar.edu.br/nupem/article/view/4854/4726Copyright (c) 2022 Ariane Ribeiro Santana, Graziela Menezes de Jesus, Rafaela Scardinohttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSantana, Ariane Ribeiro Jesus, Graziela Menezes deScardino, Rafaela2022-06-02T22:08:09Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/4854Revistahttps://periodicos.unespar.edu.br/index.php/nupem/PUBhttps://periodicos.unespar.edu.br/index.php/nupem/oainupemrevista@gmail.com2176-79122176-7912opendoar:2022-06-02T22:08:09Revista NUPEM (Online) - Universidade Estadual do Paraná (UNESPAR)false
