FROM PHYSICAL TO SYMBOLIC VIOLENCE: A CRITICISM TO THE HEGEMONIC LIBERAL DEMOCRACY

This paper´s goal is to perform a discussion about the founding principles of the liberal democracy and the form of violence it contains, taking as hypothesis the existence of a hegemonic domination, disguised as a legit symbolical violence, and attached to the democratic state. In order to achieve this objective, the research uses a dialectical method, consisting in the proposition of a thesis, in the present case the liberal principles, then confronted by an anti-liberal critical antithesis. The product that emerges from the analysis of this confrontation is a synthesis, being the nature intrinsic to bourgeois democracy. Among the results, the hypothesis is veridical, in a way that the liberal based democratic model stablish a Right´s State founded in abstract human rights, resumed to the right of private property, therefore, the subject of rights would be concentrated in the image of the proprietor. It concludes that the liberal democracy, since its foundation, implants a public hegemonic power through an abstract and impersonal violence disguised as common will.
