From Leme to Santa Cruz: the electoral territorialization of Jair Bolsonaro in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro

Resumo: The objective of this article is to demonstrate how social indicators can help to elucidate the process of expansion of the electoral base of Jair Bolsonaro in his parliamentary career and, more recently, as presidential candidate, observing ruptures and continuities in this trajectory. The method used is a correlation between the Social Development Index of the city of Rio de Janeiro and the spatialized electoral performance of the candidate in the elections of 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. With this effort, we hope to offer data to those considering the following questions: what is the profile of those voters who have supported Jair Bolsonaro throughout his parliamentary trajectory? Were there any changes in this profile? How did his electoral base expand in the process of building his candidacy for the presidency of the republic?

El mé[1]todo utilizado será una correlación entre el Índice de Desarrollo Social de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro y el desempeño electoral espacializado del candidato en las elecciones de 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 y 2018. En este esfuerzo, esperamos ofrecer informaciones a los que se detienen en las siguientes cuestiones: ¿cuál es el perfil del votante de Jair Bolsonaro a lo largo de su trayectoria parlamentaria? ¿Ha habido cambios en este perfil? ¿Cómo se ha producido la ampliación de sus bases electorales en el proceso de construcción de su candidatura a la presidencia de la república?O objetivo do artigo é compreender como os indicadores sociais territorializados podem dar pistas sobre a ampliação da base eleitoral de Jair Bolsonaro em sua carreira como parlamentar e, posteriormente, como presidenciável, observando rupturas e continuidades nessa trajetória. O método utilizado será uma correlação entre o Índice de Desenvolvimento Social da cidade do Rio de Janeiro e o desempenho eleitoral espacializado do então candidato nas eleições de 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 e 2018. Nesse esforço, esperamos oferecer insumos àqueles que se debruçam sobre os seguintes questionamentos: qual o perfil do eleitor de Jair Bolsonaro ao longo de sua trajetória parlamentar?
