Resumo: This article examines different aspects related to the censorship of women writers and their imprisonment during the New State of Getúlio Vargas (1937-1945), focusing on two female writers: Patricia Galvão and HaydéeNicolussi. During this period, repression against intellectuals occurred primarily through the political police of the Departamento de OrdemPolítica e Social. Censorship of female writers was a response of the New State that sought to occupy public space and promote an official culture. Nevertheless, the repressive project against intellectual women went beyond political persecution and was characterized as a moralizing and repressive campaign against women who challenged traditional feminine functions.

Durante esta etapa histórica, la represión contra intelectuales se dio fundamentalmente a través de la policía política del Departamento de Ordem Política e Social. La censura a escritoras fue una respuesta del Estado Novo que tenía como fin ocupar el espacio público y difundir una cultura oficial. No obstante, el proyecto represor contra las mujeres intelectuales iba más allá de una persecución política, y se caracterizó por ser un proyecto moralizante y de represión hacia las mujeres que salían de las fronteras de las funciones tradicionales femeninas.O artigo aborda diversos aspectos relacionados à censura de escritores e seu encarceramento durante o Estado Novo de Getúlio Vargas (1937-1945), enfocando dois escritores do período: Patricia Galvão e Haydée Nicolussi. Nessa fase histórica, a repressão contra os intelectuais se deu principalmente por meio da polícia política do Departamento de Ordem Política e Social. A censura às escritoras foi uma resposta do Estado Novo que pretendia ocupar o espaço público e difundir uma cultura oficial.
