Factory Heritage and Urban History in the "Reduto" neighborhood in “Belem" city [state of Para, Brazil]

The neighborhood of Reduto, in Belém do Pará, presents a process of modernization intrinsically related to the installation of the first factories of the capital since the last decade of the nineteenth century. These manufacturing activities began with the extraction and export of latex, and began to cool in the late 1950s, but the doors of the last factories closed in the 1970s, when the opening of new highways destabilized the productive sector of the Amazon, facilitating access to products from the south and southeast of the country. This article proposes to reflect on some of the neighborhood's industrial buildings in relation to the urban history of Belém, considering its importance as architectural patrimony, the transformations through which they passed, and the current situation of the area that sheltered some of the main industries of the capital of Pará.
