The concrete block: an exportation technology

Resumo: At the late nineteenth century, the cement production in the United States exceeded local needs, so the industry had opened itself to various proposals. It's encouraged the use of the new material in other countries as well as the use of simple machines to mold concrete blocks that looked alike stones. The advertising was very strong and its influence arrived to various continents: America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. Today we can find many buildings constructed with these blocks in Argentina, Andalucía, in the South Pacific, in the Caribe Islands, and another countries. This paper shows a vision about the theme.

This paper shows a vision about the theme.Cuando estaba finalizando el siglo XIX la producción de cemento en los Estados Unidos superó las necesidades locales y la industria se abrió a variadas propuestas. No sólo incentivó el uso del nuevo material en otros países, sino que propició la utilización de sencillas máquinas con las que podían moldearse bloques que imitaban la piedra. La propaganda fue muy fuerte y la influencia de aparatos y materiales llegó no sólo a todo el continente americano, sino también a lugares distantes como Europa, Asia y Oceanía, a lo que ayudaron las diversas coyunturas políticas. En la actualidad podemos encontrar en uso edificios hechos con estos bloques en provincias argentinas, en Andalucía, en el Pacífico Sur, en las islas caribeñas y en muchos otros lugares.
