Landscape narratives as urban and architectural heritage documentation: the case of Parnaíba [state of Piaui, Brazil]

Resumo: This work deals with the material and immaterial dimensions of the urban and environmental landscape, the result of the polarity between the old center and the growing urban expansion that occurs in the daily lives of contemporary cities. The general objective is to understand which landscapes narratives emerge from the local architectural and urban heritage and how do they interfere in safeguarding the heritage in the analyzed set? The methodology used is based on historical and documentary research, the Theory of Landscape and its narratives and the Theory of Social Representations. The theoretical contribution used by authors such as Bourdieu (1991) (2001); Choay (2017); Moscovici (2015) and others. Based on the results found, it is expected to reflect on the possible paths for a more effective management and safeguarding of heritage in the 21st century.
