Electrical territoriality in the urban space formation in the Northwest of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil (1901-1927)

Resumo: Electricity was timidly established in 1893, in the interior of the state of Sao Paulo (Brazil), in a pre-industrial society. Its advance towards the Midwest and northwest, at the dawn of the twentieth century, firmly followed the path of the railroads, mainly the Estrada de Ferro Noroeste do Brasil (1905) departing from the municipality of Bauru. The “electrical advance” implied in technological knowledge and the formation of the qualified elite, headed by the engineers of the Polytechnic School of Sao Paulo, which associated with the local oligarchy, became industrialists, constituting the first large company with national financial capital: the Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz – CPFL.
