The factory in San Ignacio: abandoned industrial heritage in Aguascalientes [Mexico]. Analysis, agricultural landscape and reuse

Resumo: | The factory of San Ignacio is situated on the western side of Aguascalientes City in Mexico. The foundation of the factory was in 1861. It had functioned during Porfirio Díaz’s government and during the Mexican Revolution until the middle of the 20th century. This factory is the first example of industrial architecture in Aguascalientes. The buildings of San Ignacio are cataloged as historical monuments and now are totally abandoned. San Ignacio is situated at the agricultural territory that produces most in Aguascalientes Valley. The buildings’ original design followed the colony industrial designs of the 19th century, and included houses for workers nearby the front side of the main building. This design typified the French model factories. The factory included a small lake in close proximity and it had a good landscape design. The site of San Ignacio and the main building started having conservation problems because of the encounter with the city development, and also with the economical and social nowadays situations. In addition there is a lack of regulations that help preserve the historical built heritage in Aguascalientes City. The paper analyzes the historic building as well as the historic site. It gives the matter careful thought about the landscape design and the study of preservation problems, based on consolidated and current theories. |

La Fábrica de San Ignacio se ubica al poniente de la ciudad de Aguascalientes, México. Su fundación data del año de 1861 y funcionó durante la época del Porfirismo en México y durante la Revolución Mexicana, quedando en desuso en la primera mitad del siglo XX. El edificio es muestra del primer ejemplo de arquitectura derivada del fenómeno de industrialización en Aguascalientes. Es un edificio catalogado como monumento histórico que se encuentra en abandono total en la actualidad; sumergido en la zona agrícola más productiva del Valle de Aguascalientes. Su diseño original obedece al sistema de colonias industriales de mediados del siglo XIX, que implicaba tener disponible viviendas para los trabajadores de la fábrica, un modelo tipológico afrancesado en su plástica, sistemas adicionales con cuerpos de agua (necesarios para su funcionamiento) y un manejo adecuado en la arquitectura de paisaje. El sitio de San Ignacio y el inmueble comienzan a tener una fuerte colisión con el desarrollo de la ciudad en sus diversas manifestaciones económicas, sociales y políticas, provocando el detrimento de edificaciones consideradas como monumentos, aunado a la incuria humana, propiciada por la falta de regulación y reglamentaciones que conlleva la pérdida de los valores históricos y artísticos de la ciudad de Aguascalientes. El artículo expone un análisis del medio físico natural y edificado; así como del sitio y del inmueble histórico; reflexiona sobre el conjunto y las condicionantes contextuales y paisajísticas; asimismo considera los elementos fundamentales para resolver la problemática de su conservación, basado en teorías consolidadas y vigentes.
