O iberismo e a reflexão sobre a democracia na obra de Gilberto Freyre

Nas discussões sobre as formações nacionais, grande parte dos autores latinoamericanos do final do século XIX e primeiras décadas do XX indagam sobre os traços e as conseqüências da marca ibérica na constituição desses países. Constatando particularidades na configuração da Espanha e Portugal, traços que tornam esses países diferentes do restante da Europa, apontam para a herança recebida pelas colônias, o que as torna singulares: são sociedades não-tipicamente-européias. Alguns desses analistas propõem um necessário rompimento com essas matrizes. Outros, é o caso de Gilberto Freyre, apontam esse particularismo como um caráter a ser mantido, pois faz parte da identidade nacional, e sugerem que as instituições políticas respeitem essa diferença, não transplantando soluções externas para a solução dos impasses sociais.Abstract:In discussions about national formations, many Latin-American authors from the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th one question the characteristics and consequences of the Iberian landmark in the constitution of these countries. In Portugal and Spain’s configuration, some particular characteristics that make them different from all other countries in Europe point to the heritage to the colonies, which makes them so unique: They are non-typical European societies. In their analyses, some of these authors propose a necessary breakup with these patterns. Some others, like Gilberto Freyre, consider this uniqueness as a trait to be kept, since it is part of a nation’s identity, and they suggest that political institutions respect this difference, not applying external solutions to these countries’ reality when trying to solve problems in social crises.Key words: Iberianism.
