Resumo: The article analyzes the occupational profile of students in federal universities according to the following cleavages: student-occupied, student-unoccupied, and student-non-employed. In this way, it was possible to identify distinct socioeconomic profiles and asymmetries that affect the way in which employed students and, above all, unemployed students access academic opportunities and university life. Taking the microdata from the Andifes Profile Surveys, it can be concluded that the doors of the Ifes remain half-open to working students and to students who, although they are not working, are looking for work, which makes them even more vulnerable and dependent on public policies for assistance and permanence.
