Trends in the field of biography in the northeast: a look from the publications of university publishers

Resumo: The scope of work is to investigate how the academic field has responded to the recent growth phenomenon of biographical writing in Brazil, casting a glance at the publications carried out by university presses the Northeast identifying its links with researchers, lines or research groups of postgraduate programs Postgraduate in history and education. The study is characterized as qualitative research with interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological contributions from the fields of history and education in the study of multiple case mode. The findings point to the plurality of biographical subjects and topics addressed in which the trend of biographies related to the male gender prevails. Chronological approaches and the construction of linear narratives predominate. The books point to a field of biography that is still emerging in the Northeast, but which presents rich contributions, a fact that seems to confirm that today is a moment of democratization of biography.

The books point to a field of biography that is still emerging in the Northeast, but which presents rich contributions, a fact that seems to confirm that today is a moment of democratization of biography.O objetivo do trabalho é investigar como o campo acadêmico biografia tem reagido ao fenômeno do recente crescimento da escrita biográfica no Brasil, lançando um olhar sobre as publicações realizadas por editoras universitárias do Nordeste e as relações que estabelecem com os programas de pós-graduação stricto sensu em história e educação da região. O estudo caracteriza-se como pesquisa qualitativa interdisciplinar com aportes teórico-metodológicos dos campos da história e da educação na modalidade estudo de caso múltiplo. Os achados apontam a pluralidade de sujeitos biografados e temáticas abordadas em que ainda prevalece a tendência de biografias relacionadas ao gênero masculino. Predominam as abordagens do tipo cronológicas, a construção de narrativas lineares e o uso interdisciplinar de métodos oriundos da sociologia e da história.  Há uma significativa desproporção entre as publicações de teses e dissertações e as publicações de livros no gênero biografia pelas editoras universitárias no Nordeste. As fontes apontam para um campo da biografia ainda emergente no Nordeste, mas que apresenta ricas contribuições, fato esse que parece confirmar que se vive hoje um momento de democratização da biografia.En este trabajo indagamos cómo el campo académico se relaciona con el fenómeno del crecimiento reciente de la escritura biográfica en Brasil. Desde las publicaciones realizadas por editoriales universitarias de la región Nordeste del país, el estudio identifica los vínculos de estas publicaciones con los expertos, las líneas de investigación y los grupos de los programas de posgrado en Historia y Educación. Este trabajo aun se caracteriza como una investigación cualitativa con aportes teóricos y metodológicos de dos campos de la historia y la educación en la modalidad de estudio de casos múltiples. Los hallazgos apuntan a la pluralidad de temas biográficos y temas abordados en los que prevalece las tendencias relacionadas con el género masculino. Predominan los enfoques cronológicos y la construcción de narrativas lineales.
