Language as a research guideline within mathematical education: contributions from philosophy and discourse studies

Resumo: Due to the widespread use of language in mathematical education studies, both as learningand research methodologies, this work focuses mainly on the latter, covering theoretically the languageissue as an investigation tool for research in this field. . The aim is to go deeper into this discussionfollowing two ways. The first one intends to present a comprehension of language use diffusion as thecore in research methodologies through a philosophical discussion based on Wittgenstein´s philosophy,accepted as a reference in the ‘Language turn’ in which language plays a central role in philosophicalresearch. The second way seeks to clarify central aspects from different discourse positions that havebeen used as research theoretical basis, such as those associated to acknowledged authors Bakhtin andFoucault. In this way a theoretical reference is formed that takes language as a research guideline inwhich the mail goal does not consist in solving problems or finding solutions, but in discussing valuesand ideologies that underlie language practices established as research objects.

In this way a theoretical reference is formed that takes language as a research guideline inwhich the mail goal does not consist in solving problems or finding solutions, but in discussing valuesand ideologies that underlie language practices established as research objects.Em função do amplo emprego da linguagem nas pesquisas na área da Educação Matemática, como metodologia de ensino e como metodologia de pesquisa, este estudo focaliza primordialmente este último, abordando teoricamente a questão da linguagem considerada eixo de investigação de pesquisas nesse campo. O objetivo é aprofundar esta discussão por meio de dois caminhos. O primeiro pretende apresentar uma compreensão da difusão do uso da linguagem como centro de metodologias de pesquisas – uma repercussão de um movimento filosófico conhecido como “virada linguística” –, em que a linguagem passa a ocupar um papel central na investigação filosófica. Esta discussão filosófica está centrada na filosofia de Wittgenstein, frequentemente considerado marco dessa virada. O segundo caminho busca esclarecer características centrais de diferentes vertentes de concepção discursiva, tornadas aportes teóricos de pesquisas, tais como aquelas associadas a autores consagrados, a exemplo de Bakhtin e Foucault. Constituem-se, assim, bases de um referencial teórico que faria da linguagem seu eixo de investigação.
