The actions of the delivery workers’ union and the app drivers’ union during the Covid-19 pandemic in São Paulo

Resumo: Focusing on two unions that seek to organize delivery workers and app drivers in São Paulo, this article aims to elucidate what actions have been taken in the face of the Covid-19 health crisis. Through a survey of documents, interviews with union leaders and field research, it seeks to understand, on the one hand, what the main demands of these unions are to the companies that own the digital platforms and to the public authorities; on the other hand, what the impacts of the pandemic have been on their forms of action. The results show that the fight against precariousness has become more intense, pushing unions to pressure companies and public institutions for better working conditions. In addition, solidarity actions have helped unions to get closer to these workers, providing concrete answers to demands that have been ignored by companies.

A través de una encuesta documental, entrevistas con líderes sindicales e investigación de campo, busca comprender, por un lado, cuáles son las principales demandas de estos sindicatos a las empresas propietarias de las plataformas digitales y a los poderes públicos; por otro, cuáles han sido los impactos de la pandemia en sus formas de acción. Los resultados muestran que la lucha contra la precariedad se ha intensificado, empujando a los sindicatos a presionar a las empresas y a las instituciones públicas para conseguir mejores condiciones laborales. Además, las acciones solidarias han ayudado a los sindicatos a acercarse a estos trabajadores, dando respuestas concretas a demandas ignoradas por las empresas.En se concentrant sur deux syndicats qui cherchent à organiser les livreurs et les chauffeurs d'applications à São Paulo, cet article vise à élucider les actions entreprises face à la crise sanitaire du Covid-19. À travers une enquête documentaire, des entretiens avec des responsables syndicaux et des recherches de terrain, il cherche à comprendre, d'une part, quelles sont les principales revendications de ces syndicats auprès des entreprises propriétaires des plateformes numériques et des pouvoirs publics; d'autre part, quels ont été les impacts de la pandémie sur leurs formes d'action. Les résultats montrent que la lutte contre la précarité s'est intensifiée, poussant les syndicats à faire pression sur les entreprises et les institutions publiques pour obtenir de meilleures conditions de travail. En outre, les actions de solidarité ont contribué à rapprocher les syndicats de ces travailleurs, en apportant des réponses concrètes à des demandes ignorées par les entreprises.Com foco em dois sindicatos que buscam organizar os entregadores e os motoristas por aplicativos, em São Paulo, este artigo tem por objetivo elucidar quais ações foram tomadas frente à crise sanitária da Covid-19. Por meio do levantamento documental, da realização de entrevistas com dirigentes sindicais e de pesquisa de campo, busca compreender, por um lado, quais as principais reivindicações desses sindicatos às empresas detentoras das plataformas digitais e ao poder público; por outro, quais os impactos da pandemia sobre suas formas de atuação. Os resultados apontam que a luta contra a precarização se tornou mais intensa, impulsionando os sindicatos a pressionar as empresas e as instituições públicas por melhores condições de trabalho.
