Resumo: The present text aims to analyses focusing the category of archetype as an alternative to the ideia of type the relationship between features of urban configuration and the emergence of a modern urban form connected to the role of power relations acting on the movement of goods and people within the city. The archetype concept is related to the profound changing in the organization of cities at the beginning of the Modern Age as a result of an urban conformation that explicity embody power relations.Keywords Archetype. Urbanism. Modern Age. Power.O presente trabalho pretende discutir a relação entre a mudança em elementos urbanos próprios da configuração urbana e a emergência da cidade da Idade Moderna. Para tanto, utilizaremos a categoria de arquétipo, como alternativa à ideia de tipo, associando-a a um particular modo de exercício de poder na organização dos fluxos de movimento de pessoas e mercadorias.
