“Colonians”, “caravanists”, “excursionists” and “passeants”: the history of sesc-SP, guided by the touristic leisure practices offered by the institution

Resumo: This article comes from a doctoral research on the history of touristic leisure in the Social Service of Commerce of São Paulo (Sesc-SP). The investigation relied on documentary analysis, from sources filed at the Administrative Headquarters and at Sesc-Memórias, both from Sesc-SP. In addition, using the Oral History method, nineteen interviews were carried out with professionals from different positions, functions and positions, who worked at the institution from the 1970s until the beginning of the 21st century. A dense bibliographic review was also carried out regarding the entity itself, the socio-political context that encompasses its trajectory and the institutionalization of leisure in Brazil´s history. The results showed how the idea was created around touristic leisure in Sesc-SP, describing the ideological and organizational path that the regional department had gone through in this sector.

La investigación se basó en el análisis documental, de fuentes archivadas en la Sede Administrativa y en Sesc-Memórias, ambas de Sesc-SP. Además, utilizando el método de Historia Oral, se realizaron diecinueve entrevistas a profesionales de diferentes funciones y cargos, que laboraron en la institución desde la década de los setenta hasta principios del siglo XXI. También se realizó una densa revisión bibliográfica sobre la propia entidad, el contexto sociopolítico que engloba su trayectoria y la institucionalización del ocio en la historia de Brasil. Los resultados mostraron cómo se gestaba la idea en torno al ocio turístico en Sesc-SP, describiendo el camino ideológico y organizativo que había recorrido el departamento regional en este sector.Este artigo advém de uma pesquisa de doutorado sobre a história do lazer turístico no Serviço Social do Comércio de São Paulo (Sesc-SP). A investigação contou com a análise documental, a partir de fontes arquivadas na Sede administrativa e no Sesc-Memórias, ambos do Sesc-SP. Além disso, utilizando-se do método da História Oral, foram realizadas dezenove entrevistas com profissionais de diferentes cargos, funções e posições, que trabalharam na instituição desde a década de 1970 até o início do século XXI. Também foi efetivada uma densa revisão bibliográfica a respeito da própria entidade, da conjuntura sociopolítica que engloba a sua trajetória e da institucionalização do lazer na história do Brasil.
