Resumo: The purpose of this article is to analyze the Luso-Brazilian fraternity discourse, as from the current formulations amongst the Portuguese associativa leaderships in Brazil. First, I intend to show how the fraternity metaphor has meanings that overflow the simple enunciation of the fraternity feeling and corresponds to hierarchial logic and historical visions about the Brazil-Portugal relationship. Furthermore, I attempt to expose how its eminently ideological character hides itself in the aspiration of preventing conflictive situations in the public sphere, through representation of such conflicts by categories in connection with family order and therefore concerning the private sphere.
