Essa forma singular de escrita surgiu nos EUA há 100 anos e tornou-se um dos principais veículos de transmissão da música popular impressa. A partir da disseminação dos fake books - coleções de partituras cifradas editadas por terceiros ¿ seus usuários deflagararam um processo de transformação gradual da estrutura seminal de algumas obras musicais, através da reiteração de equívocos cometidos durante a sua transcrição. Nossa investigação dedicou especial atenção ao Real Book, o mais popular fake book de todos os tempos, comparando cada uma das suas 431 transcrições, com as gravações-referência citadas nos pés-de-página. Essa escuta analítica levou à escolha de um grupo de músicas para realizar estudos comparativos, monitorando a trajetória dessas obras durante os seus mais de quarenta anos de existência, através da audição de performances selecionadas no YouTube e no Spotify. As conclusões da pesquisa mostram que o processo de transformação dessas obras continua em curso, de forma silenciosa e irreversívelAbstract: The main subject of this work is the lead sheet, a mixed system of music notation which uses, besides the written melody on tradicional staff, alpha-numerical symbols that inform the harmonic progression. This singular way of writing emerged in the US, about 100 years ago, and became a main vehicle on the transmission of notated popular music. Since the dissemination of fake books - lead sheet collections edited by a third party ¿ the users started a process of change on the seminal structure of specific tunes, through the reiteration of transcription¿s mistakes. Our investigation has dedicated special attention to The Real Book, the most popular fake book ever, comparing each of its 431 transcriptions with the recordings cited on the foot-note of each page. This analytical listening led to a list of tunes choosed for comparative studies, monitoring its trajectory on the last forty years, through selected performances found on YouTube and Spotify.
