Além de um processo patogênico bastante complexo, a literatura recente sugere o envolvimento de fatores metabólicos em sua etiologia, tais como adipocinas, níveis de lipopolissacarídeos, obesidade e diabetes. Nesta perspectiva, esta dissertação contemplou a elaboração de dois artigos, os quais atenderam aos seguintes objetivos: Artigo 1: abordou a revisão da literatura referente à associação entre osteoartrite de joelho e síndrome metabólica nos últimos 5 anos. Artigo 2: analisou a associação entre osteoartrite de joelho e síndrome metabólica em idosos da comunidade. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, aleatorizado, de idosos ? 65 anos, de Amparo/SP. Foram avaliadas as variáveis sociodemográficas, antropométricas, exame de imagem e laboratorial. A qualidade metodológica da revisão embasou-se na Declaração STROBE e a análise estatística da pesquisa de campo foi realizada através de análise exploratória de dados, testes de Mann-Whitney ou Qui-Quadrado e regressões logísticas uni e multivariadas. Utilizou-se o The SAS System for Windows versão 9.4, com nível de significância de p < 0,05. A revisão apontou para uma possível associação entre osteoartrite sintomática e hipertensão arterial sistêmica. O segundo artigo encontrou associação entre osteoartrite e circunferência de cintura. Em nenhum dos dois artigos foi encontrada associação significativa entre osteoartrite e o número de componentes metabólicas nem com a síndrome metabólica em si. Conclui-se que, a osteoartrite de joelho é mais prevalente em mulheres e a síndrome metabólica é mais prevalente em homens e que essas prevalências aumentam com o avanço da idade; que o acúmulo de componentes metabólicos está associado a maior intensidade da dor e a uma maior degradação da cartilagem articular, independente da idade, peso e sexo, que o fato de ter síndrome metabólica aumenta a probabilidade de osteoartrite em ambos os sexos; e que circunferência da cintura está associada com osteoartrite de joelho em idosos não institucionalizadosAbstract: Osteoarthritis is considered the largest cause of physical disability in the world and its incidence increases with advancing age, especially over 60 years. In addition to a rather complex pathogenic process, recent literature suggests the involvement of metabolic factors in its etiology, such as adipokines, lipopolysaccharide levels, obesity and diabetes. In this perspective, this dissertation contemplated the elaboration of two articles, which met the following objectives: Article 1: approached the literature review regarding the association between knee osteoarthritis and metabolic syndrome in the last 5 years. Article 2: analyzed the association between knee osteoarthritis and metabolic syndrome in the aged in the community. This is a cross-sectional, randomized study of the aged ? 65 years of Amparo / SP. Sociodemographic variables, anthropometric, image and laboratory tests were evaluated. The methodological quality of the review was based on the STROBE Statement and the statistical analysis of the field survey was performed through exploratory data analysis, Mann-Whitney or Chi-Square tests and univariate and multivariate logistic regressions. The SAS System for Windows version 9.4 was used, with significance level of p <0.05. The review points to a possible association between symptomatic osteoarthritis and systemic arterial hypertension. The second article found association between osteoarthritis and waist circumference. In neither article was found a significant association between OA and the number of metabolic components nor with metabolic syndrome itself.
