A flora arbustivo-arbórea (silvestre) do Cerrado teria se originado a partir da flora arbórea de florestas vizinhas e hoje apresenta um forte padrão geográfico, distribuindo-se em seis províncias florísticas. Investigamos a hipótese de que esse forte provincialismo pode decorrer do processo de surgimento e diversificação das linhagens que compõem a flora silvestre do Cerrado. Para isso, analisamos a riqueza e o padrão filogenético das comunidades arbustivo-arbóreas do Cerrado em diferentes escalas. Se o fogo age como uma barreira adaptativa ao impedir o estabelecimento de algumas linhagens de plantas, apenas alguns clados vindos das florestas vizinhas teriam capacidade de especiar-se no Cerrado, de modo que as comunidades arbustivo-arbóreas do Cerrado deveriam apresentar um padrão filogenético não aleatório. Montamos uma árvore filogenética de trabalho a partir da construção de um banco de dados com 530 comunidades em toda a extensão do Cerrado. Calculamos os índices filogenéticos NRI e NTI para dois conjuntos de escalas espaciais (províncias e bioma) e três escalas filogenéticas (relações entre espécies, famílias e gêneros) e comparamos a riqueza e a divergência filogenética das comunidades por meio das métricas de betadiversidade filogenética PhyloSor, Comdist e Comdistnt. Em todas as escalas, as comunidades não apresentaram estrutura filogenética, predominando o padrão aleatório. A predominância do padrão filogenético aleatório aponta para a relevância de processos aleatórios na montagem das comunidades arbustivo-arbóreas do Cerrado. Isso sugere ausência de seleção das linhagens e colonização inicial do Cerrado por vários gêneros e famílias de muitos clados diferentes. O provincialismo atual da flora silvestre do Cerrado manifesta-se principalmente no nível de espécie, havendo muitos gêneros e famílias comuns. Propomos que (1) o fogo na floresta agiria como uma barreira que não seleciona linhagens, mas indivíduos; (2) o fogo na savana representaria o principal controlador da especiação dos indivíduos sobreviventes que evoluiriam adaptações de resistência ao fogo; (3) a persistência dos indivíduos na savana dependeria também de fatores locais, como características dos solos e interações bióticas; e (4) fatores locais e limitação da dispersão das especies teriam levado ao provincialismo das espécies observado atualmenteAbstract: Fire plays a very importante role in savanic formations by controlling the colonization and establishment of tree species, such as, for example, in the Cerrado, the richest savanic formation in the world. The Cerrado shrub-tree (sylvan) flora would have originated from the tree flora of neighbor florests and today has a strong geographic pattern, being distributed in six floristic provinces. We investigated the hypothesis that this strong provincialism may have resulted from the process of emergence and diversification of the lineages that compose the Cerrado sylvan flora. We analyzed the phylogenetic richness and the phylogenetic pattern of Cerrado sylvan communities on diferente scales. If fire acts like an adaptative barrier by preventing the establishment of some plant lineages, only a few clades from the neighbor forests would be able to speciate in the Cerrado, so the Cerrado sylvan communities should have a non-random phylogenetic pattern. We built a phylogenetic work tree after the construction of a database of 530 communities throughout the Cerrado. We calculated the phylogenetic indices NRI and NTI for two sets of spatial scales (provinces and biome) and three phylogenetic scales (relationship between species, families and genera), and compared phylogenetic richness and phylogenetic divergence through the phylogenetic beta diversity metrics Phylosor, Comdist and Comdistnt. In all scales, the communities did not show any phylogenetic structure, the random pattern predominating. The predominance of the random phylogenetic pattern on all the scales points to the importance of random processes in the assembly of the Cerrado sylvan communities. This suggests the absence of lineage selection and an initial colonization of the Cerrado by several genera and families of diferente clades. The current provincialism of the Cerrado sylvan flora manifests itself mainly at the species level, while many genera and families are common.
