Gentrification, media and symbolic power: considerations on the consumption of commodified urban space

Resumo: Contributions from the social communication and consumer culture studies can further enrich the debates about the transformation of cities via gentrification processes. We aim to construct possibilities of framing gentrification phenomena as objects of analysis by strengthening theoretical ties between those fields of knowledge and the field of urban studies. To do so, we reflect on the possibilities of dialogue between the main approaches on gentrification, on the relation between media and social production of space, on the mediatization of the urban experience and the production on places and on the symbolic reconfiguration of urban space through the language of exclusion and belonging that structures consumer culture.

Buscamos explicitar possibilidades de objetivar fenômenos de gentrificação a partir do estreitamento de relações entre estes campos e os estudos urbanos.
