Resumo: | This paper aims to offer an analysis affiliated to the theoretical and methodological framework of the materialist Discourse Analysis developed by Michel Pêcheus of the ways in which the future and the past are mobilized by the official propaganda of dictatorial regimes, in a tension between a past deemed as glorious and a future seen as promising. The paper analyzes propaganda pieces from the Vargas Era (1930-1945), the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985), and the Portuguese New State (1933-1974). The paper also discusses the conditions of production that allow for the formulation of sayings about the future by the Brazilian dictatorships and about the past by the Portuguese regime, while barring the mobilization of the future in Portuguese propaganda and of the past in Brazilian propaganda. |

Universidade Estadual de Campinas2022-06-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/otherapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.sbu.unicamp.br/ojs/index.php/rua/article/view/867029410.20396/rua.v28i1.8670294RUA; Vol. 28 No. 1 (2022): jun.; 27-51RUA; v. 28 n. 1 (2022): jun.; 27-512179-99111413-2109reponame:Rua (Campinas.
