The voice’s emulation of the Black politician in the Rio de Janeiro press the beginning of the 20th century

Resumo: This work analyzes a set of historical documents about the black lawyer and politician Monteiro Lopes published in newspapers and magazines in the Rio de Janeiro in the beginning of the 20th century. From what was discussed about Monteiro Lopes in the press, we seek to understand how racial markers referred to a literate black subject functioned in the press discourse in the post-abolition period. As a theoretical-methodological support, we used the perspectives of Materialist Discourse Analysis based on the concepts of Discursive Formation, Silence, in addition to Social History to measure the historicity of the elaborated discourse. The conclusion reached by this work is that some of the Rio de Janeiro press vehicles sought to delegitimize the place of power that Monteiro Lopes had conquered.

A partir de lo discutido sobre Monteiro Lopes en la prensa, buscamos comprender cómo los marcadores raciales referidos a un sujeto negro alfabetizado funcionaron en el discurso de prensa en el período post-abolición. Como soporte teórico-metodológico, utilizamos las perspectivas del Análisis Materialista del Discurso a partir de los conceptos de Formación Discursiva, Silencio, además de la Historia Social para medir la historicidad del discurso elaborado. La conclusión a la que llega este trabajo es que algunos de los vehículos de la prensa de Río buscaban deslegitimar el lugar de poder que había conquistado Monteiro Lopes.Este trabalho analisa um conjunto de documentos históricos sobre o advogado e político negro Monteiro Lopes publicado em periódicos no Rio de Janeiro no início do século XX. A partir do que foi abordado sobre o Monteiro Lopes na imprensa, buscamos compreender como marcadores raciais referidos a um sujeito negro letrado funcionaram no discurso da imprensa no período pós-abolição. Como suporte teórico-metodológico, utilizamos as perspectivas da Análise de Discurso Materialista a partir dos conceitos de Formação Discursiva e Silêncio, além da História Social para dimensionar a historicidade do discurso elaborado.
