Resumo: This article analyses the functioning of the theories of the ethnos in the second half of he 20th century in the Soviet Union in post-soviet Rússia. The author shows that this concept is grounded on the determinist naturalism that goes back to Europe in the end of the 18th century, which produces an ethnical determinism in the conception of national communities, by means of which the exclusion of the other is produced, since the possibility of personal choice is voided.
