Resumo: The epigraph we selected to start this review is found in the article “The formal apparatus of enunciation”, by Émile Benveniste, published in 1970. In it, Benveniste emphasizes the need to insist on the difference between “use of forms”, semiotic mode, and “ use of language ”, semantic mode. This distinction, which establishes two distinct modes of significance in the language, was instituted by the author throughout his theorization and highlights two different perspectives of description and interpretation.
