Resumo: In texts by linguists with different theoretical affiliations and linked to different scientific spaces, inside and outside Brazil, we can glimpse a very frequent definition about linguistics, which presents itself, at least at first glance, as unquestionable: Linguistics is the language science. We can say that this definition is supported by the evidence effect of the unity of a science - in the terms of Dominique Lecourt (1980): “the unitary ideological notion of “the science”” (p. 13).

Podemos decir que esta definición está respaldada por la Efecto de evidencia de la unidad de una ciencia - en términos de Dominique Lecourt (1980): “la noción ideológica unitaria de “la ciencia”” (p. 13).Em textos de lingüistas de filiações teóricas distintas e vinculados a espaços científicos diversos, dentro e fora do Brasil, podemos vislumbrar uma definição bastante freqüente sobre a lingüística, que se apresenta, ao menos à primeira vista, como inquestionável: A Lingüística é a ciência da linguagem.
