Wooden tongue and wind speech: (from transparency to opacity in Soviet political discourse)

Resumo: The Soviet Union has posed a serious problem for western Marxists because of a special relationship between language and discourse. The term “officialese” belongs to the detractors and opponents of the Soviet regime, so it is a polemical instrument. The vast majority of western texts which have taken as their object the “officialese” describe it as “the language of falsehood”, thus presupposing, by contrast, a language of the true. This lie/truth opposition is a trap that only a discourse analysis can escape. On the condition of considering the specific dimension of a language, Russian, whereas almost all the analyses of discourse in France were based on texts written in French. This particular dimension of the language makes it possible to refine the procedures of discourse analysis by avoiding making a simple analysis of content. The examples presented here show the impasses of a naive attitude consisting in proposing a translation of the false into the real.

A expressão “língua de madeira” pertence aos detratores e adversários do regime soviético, sendo, por conseguinte, um instrumento polêmico. A imensa maioria dos textos ocidentais que têm por objeto a “língua de madeira” descreve-a como “a língua da mentira”, pressupondo assim, por contraste, uma língua do verdadeiro. Esta oposição mentira/verdade é uma armadilha à qual só uma análise do discurso permite escapar. Na condição de ter em conta a dimensão própria de uma língua, o russo, quando a quase totalidade das análises do discurso na França tinha por objeto textos redigidos em francês. Esta dimensão própria da língua permite afinar os procedimentos de análise do discurso, evitando uma simples análise de conteúdo.
