On potentialities and challenges: the problem of forgetting established in disregard with the historical cemeteries in Manaus

Resumo: This article aims to produce scientific knowledge in the historic cemeteries of the 19th-20th century, in Manaus, by seeking a framework in the universe through the representations of funerary tombstones. Upon finding a theoretical framework oriented in funerary studies, and transversely, in research in historical archeology, the present work will seek to expand interdisciplinary knowledge in the intersection of documentary sources, with artifactual sources. These cemeteries, and their gravestones, which constitute historical archaeological sites, must be studied as representations of the past. The article has as a perspective, not only to foster scientific knowledge, through a search to understand the funerary and ritual aspects, as well as structural aspects of the deposits. With regard to its symbolic aspects of social distinction and noticeable differences in the tomb decoration and in the burial location itself.

La ausencia de políticas públicas y de valorización de estos cementerios como patrimonio reflejo de la colectividad, provoca con el tiempo un olvido de los mismos como lugares de memoria importantes para la ciudad. Principalmente, en lo que respecta a las representaciones y contextualizaciones a través de las lápidas funerarias, que, a su vez, pueden contribuir a la producción de conocimiento científico en relación con Manaus entre los siglos XIX y XX. Al encontrar un marco teórico orientado en los estudios funerarios, y transversalmente, en la investigación en Arqueología Histórica, este trabajo buscará ampliar el conocimiento interdisciplinario en la intersección de las fuentes documentales con las fuentes artefactuales (cultura material). Estos cementerios y sus lápidas, que constituyen yacimientos arqueológicos históricos, deben estudiarse como representaciones del pasado. El artículo no sólo pretende fomentar el conocimiento científico mediante la búsqueda de la comprensión de los aspectos funerarios y rituales, así como de los aspectos estructurales de los yacimientos. En cuanto a sus aspectos simbólicos de distinción social y diferencias perceptibles en la decoración de la tumba y la ubicación del propio enterramiento. Además, señalar la relación social y simbólica de estos espacios y sus interacciones con el patrimonio cultural.Este artigo tem como objetivo tratar sobre as potencialidades e os desafios estabelecidos na preservação e salvaguarda dos cemitérios históricos de Manaus. A ausência de políticas públicas e de valorização desses cemitérios como patrimônios que refletem o coletivo, acarreta ao longo tempo um esquecimento destes enquanto lugares de memória que são importantes para a cidade. Principalmente, no que concerne as representações e contextualizações através das lápides funerárias, que, por sua vez, podem contribuir para a produção de conhecimento científico em relação a Manaus entre o século XIX-XX. Ao encontrar um arcabouço teórico orientado nos estudos funerários, e transversalmente, nas pesquisas em Arqueologia Histórica, o presente trabalho procurará ampliar os conhecimentos interdisciplinares no entrecruzamento das fontes documentais com as fontes artefatuais (ou: da cultura material). Estes cemitérios e suas lápides, que se constituem em sítios arqueológicos históricos, devem ser estudados enquanto representações do passado. O artigo tem como perspectiva, não só fomentar o conhecimento científico através de uma busca na compreensão dos aspectos funerários e rituais, como também estruturais dos jazigos. No que tangência os seus aspectos simbólicos de distinção social e diferenças perceptíveis na decoração tumular e na própria localização do sepultamento.
