Resumo: The article aims to discuss capoeira's socio-historical questions to assist in the organization of its history considering historically systematized myths and the academic-scientific production that ends up unveiling the formulations anchored in the myths. This is engendered by the relationship of capoeira in the process of forming myths developed in the imaginary of Brazilian social formation. Starting from a literature review study, we seek to identify myths, symbolisms and representations, aiming to organize the production of knowledge about capoeira. We used as reference for analysis the categories of everyday knowledge and scientific knowledge synthesized by Vygotsky. As a result, it was identified the need for studies that aim to understand it in its entirety (myths, symbolisms, academic-scientific production).
