From modernist spaces to places of the community: memories of the construction of satellite-towns of Brasília

Resumo: The monumental buildings and wide-open spaces of the Pilot Plan defined emblematic images of Brasilia. This article seeks, however, to highlight other representations of the capital city, based on the analysis of recent memories of migrants who settled in satellite towns built on the outskirts of the capital since the end of the 1950s. Reports of experiences and practices of construction in those settlements endowed new meaning to spaces designed according to modernist principles and expressed feelings of belonging to communities linked to their place. Rather than analyzing the effective construction of satellite towns, the aim is to investigate how this process was assimilated and narrated from the subjective dimension of people who experienced it.

Os relatos de experiências e práticas de construção naqueles núcleos dão novos significados a espaços concebidos segundo princípios modernistas e expressam sentimentos de pertencimento a comunidades vinculadas ao lugar.
