Resumo: In 1960, Brasília was inaugurated, being the city a meta synthesis of Juscelino Kubitschek's plan and a masterpiece of the modern Brazilian architecture. Commonly, critics and historians in the field of architecture lead us to believe that, first, the group of architects gathered around Lucio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer was the image of the modern Brazilian architecture, decreasing internal confrontations and clashes in the field, and second, that the Brazilian modern architecture is intrinsically related to developmentalism. Aiming to contribute to the analysis of the relationship between architecture and developmentalism, this article resumes these concepts starting from the figure of one of its main contributors in Brazil, Celso Furtado, and trying to identify some possible points of contact with modernism in architecture.
