Resumo: The article discusses the importance of Quarup (1967) by Antonio Callado, taken as a representative novel of the contradictions present in Brazilian society in the 1960s, especially after the 1964 coup. After locating Quarup's fundamental traits, the text proposes its articulation with other novels by the author about the dictatorship: Bar Don Juan (1971), Reflexos do baile (1976) and Sempreviva (1981). Such articulation allows us to understand the end of the 1967 novel as a sign of diminishing expectations of revolution. On the other hand, if we exclusively emphasize the context of the 1960s, Quarup can be read as an index of the necessary political radicalization in the face of the horizon of reduction of possibilities of democratic transformations.

Luego de ubicar los rasgos fundamentales de Quarup, el texto propone su articulación con otras novelas del autor sobre la dictadura: Bar Don Juan (1971), Reflexos do baile (1976) y Sempreviva (1981). Tal articulación permite entender el final de la novela de 1967 como una señal de disminución de las expectativas sobre la revolución. Por otra parte, si hacemos hincapié exclusivamente en el contexto de los años 60, Quarup puede leerse como un índice la necesaria radicalización política ante el horizonte de acortamiento de las posibilidades de transformaciones democráticas.O artigo discute a importância de Quarup (1967), de Antonio Callado, tomado como romance representativo das contradições presentes na sociedade brasileira na década de 1960, sobretudo a partir do golpe de 1964.
