Identity and citizenship in the craft and ways to know-make fishing arts in the coast of Piauí

This article aims at presenting the results of researches and preliminary registers about the crafts and know-how on an artisanal fishermen’s village, the Coqueiro discrict, in Luís Correia, Piauí. Luís Correia is one of ten cities that integrate the Delta do Parnaíba Environmental Protection Area. This action research has revealed the everyday life of fifteen artisanal fishermen, owners of their vessels, manufacturers of fishing gear and holders of an ancestor know-how that is currently at risk, triggered by the development of predatory fishing and tourism, which compromise the residence of men and women in the fishing territory, thus undermining the affirmation of their identities and citizenship. This research was carried out using Oral History and Ethnography, as well as techniques and record sheets adapted from the Application Guide of the National Inventory of Cultural References, published by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute. The research, collected datathat will be part of the collection of the village’s museum, a cultural equipment associated to the Territorial Museum’s Network of the Delta do Paraíba’s Ecomuseum.
