Resumo: The book Critical Mass: Unicamp and the origin of the Campinas technology hub, by Guilherme Gorgulho, goes beyond local and institutional interest, spilling over its analysis to create and consolidate the science and technology system in Brazil. The author puts at the center the history of the development of this scientific and technological pole, but he establishes the relations of this entity with the surrounding scientific community, the public policies of each era and the international context that has always conditioned the internal guidelines related to this area.
