Bioética e ética profissional: a percepção de estudantes de odontologia de uma instituição de ensino superior do noroeste do Paraná sobre o exercício da ética profissional

Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate the attitudes and opinions of Students from the School of Dentistry, both first and last years, about a bioethical and deontological dimension during their professional training. Methodology: This is a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study. The sample was composed of 11 students from the 1st year and 14 students from the 4th, from the Dentistry course, at the Cesumar University (UniCesumar). Semistructured interviews were done, with the participants, from July to November 2020. The interviews were recorded and later transcribed in verbatim for analysis, which was carried out according to a Bardin thematic analysis, with the assistance of software QSR NVivo 12®. Results: Through Bardin's content analysis, four thematic categories emerged from the information: (1) as students 'attitudes and opinions about autonomy in the field of dentistry, (2) as students' attitudes and opinions about the relationship between professional- patient; (3) what are the qualifications for the proper practice of Dentistry and (4) how attitudes and opinions regarding advertising in the field of dentistry and its ethical adequacy. Conclusion: The present study observed, thus, that dentistry undergraduate students, both in the first year and in the last year of the undergraduate Course, have prior knowledge of the importance of bioethics and ethics in the exercise of their profession. Still, students cited respect, trust, empathy, and otherness, allied to technical scientific knowledge, as the necessary characteristics for the exercise of the profession, emphasizing the importance of addressing the bioethical and deontological issue in the curricular guidelines of dentistry courses.
