Resumo: The objective of the study is to analyze the tendency of hospitalizations for surgical procedures and surgical mortality in Brazil in the period from 2010 to 2019. A coefficient of so-called surgical procedures was established for each region of the country, based on information obtained from the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System, in the field known as (TABNET), seeking about Health Care and Hospital Production. Based on data from surgical admissions in the period studied, 44,306,321 surgical procedures were performed in the country's public sector, which corresponds to an average of 4,430,632 surgeries. Thus, it was found: 2.70 surgeries per 100 inhabitants / year in the South Region; 2.17 surgeries per 100 inhabitants / year in the Midwest Region; 2.11 surgeries per 100 inhabitants / year in the Southeast Region; 2.08 surgeries per 100 inhabitants / year in the Northeast Region; 1.93 surgeries per 100 inhabitants / year in the North Region. With regard to the surgical mortality rate in the country, it was 1.64%, with differences between regions, the highest rate being in the South Region (2%), followed by the Southeast Region (1.8%), Midwest (1 , 50%), Northeast (1.33%), and the lowest rate in the North Region (1.15%). In the trends of surgical mortality, the Northeast and the South had variable trends, the same situation as Brazil in general. In this way, it was possible to verify that Brazil has a surgical volume below that recommended by the international target, therefore, it is believed that the country goes totally contrary to what is necessary to follow the fundamental rights of the Unified Health System.
