Ozonioterapia como tratamento coadjuvante na endodontia: Revisão de literatura

The use of ozone when administered by a qualified professional, is an alternative therapeutic resource in the treatment of various oral changes and has been gaining space within dentistry due to its biological characteristics, such as anti-inflammatory action, antimicrobial effect, analgesic action and an aid in repair tissue. In 2015, ozone therapy was approved by the Federal Council of Dentistry as a dental procedure, so the use of ozone can be administered by professionals who have an update on ozone therapy. Ozone can be used in the form of gas, ozonized water or ozonized oil. The present work aims to review the actions of ozone application in dentistry regarding the therapeutic treatment in an adjunctive way in endodontics. A literature review was carried out in current journals, in the Google Scholar and PubMed databases. According to the literature review, it was concluded that medicinal ozone has great potential in relation to endodontic treatment / therapy in an adjunctive manner, and can be used by a suitably trained professional under appropriate indications and in correct concentrations. Ozone therapy has been shown to be important in the clinical context of a dental surgeon due to its antimicrobial capacity and tissue biocompatibility. However, it is necessary to investigate with more clinical and laboratory studies to clarify and standardize its concentration, application and administration periods, in order to obtain the best protocols in dental practice and in the clinical scenario of endodontics.
