Resumo: In dentistry, the diastema is defined as the space found between teeth preventing proximal contact, being more prevalent between the upper central incisors. Diastemas present a multifactorial etiology and most of the time they bring about an aesthetic problem and malocclusion that can directly affect self-esteem and social life. Knowing treatment strategies is essential in clinical practice. The present work aimed to guide the professional regarding the different treatments for the diastemas between the upper central incisors, presenting the advantages and disadvantages, indications and contraindications and the technique of each treatment, allowing the professional to have greater control over the matter and know the best option to offer to each patient. The literature shows that the main treatment options are direct restorations, indirect restorations and orthodontics, all showing favorable results. Therefore, it is up to the professional to know the indications / advantages for each case and thus be able to offer the best treatment for the patient, obtaining good aesthetic and lasting results.

Os diastemas apresentam etiologia multifatorial e, na maioria das vezes, acarretam um problema estético e de má oclusão, podendo afetar diretamente a autoestima e o convívio social. Conhecer as estratégias de tratamento é fundamental na prática clínica. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo conduzir o profissional quanto aos diversos tratamentos para os diastemas entre os incisivos centrais superiores, apresentando as vantagens e desvantagens, indicações e contraindicações e a técnica de cada tratamento, permitindo que o profissional tenha maior domínio sobre o assunto e saiba qual a melhor opção para oferecer a cada paciente. A literatura mostra que as principais opções de tratamentos são as restaurações diretas, restaurações indiretas e a ortodontia, todos apresentando resultados favoráveis.
