Prevalência de sintomas respiratórios e ortopédicos em profissionais cabeleireiros da cidade de Maringá

The respiratory system is important for human beings because the oxygen is provided through gas exchange, a vital substance for our survival. Some substances found in cosmetic products have a toxic effect and may compromise their function. The shoulder complex is a hypermobile joint that contributes to the majority of upper limb movements; professionals who use this segment repeatedly are susceptible to lesions and functional disabilities. The present study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of respiratory symptoms and musculoskeletal injuries in hairdressing professionals from Maringá-PR and to correlate that existence with the profession time and the weekly working hours. Professionals between 20 and 70 years old were submitted to the study; respiratory symptoms were assessed through an interview and the DASH and SPADI questionnaires were used to evaluated upper limb functionality. With the methodology used, it was found that, of the 19 professionals in the area evaluated, 68.42% had some respiratory problem, 31.5% reported dyspnea, 65.5% complained of coughing, and 37% felt other symptoms besides of the breathing during the straightening, which the main ones are burning eyes and throat and headache. In relation to pain there was an average of only 14.4% and the incapacity was observed of 13.2% in DASH and 10% in SPADI. Therefore, it is concluded that the prevalence of respiratory symptoms is high, contrary to the results of orthopedic questionnaires that did not reveal fist, hand and shoulder dysfunction in hairdressing professionals. However, it is suggested that additional studies with a larger number of participants in order to obtain confirmation of these results.
