Efeitos da terapia do espelho na funcionalidade do membro superior de pacientes com hemiparesia

Objective: This interventional study aimed to evaluate the effects of Mirror Therapy (MT) on the functional recovery of the upper limbs in Encephalic Vascular Accident patient. Methodology: Was been included individuals from the waiting list of the neurological sector of the Unicesumar School of Physiotherapy, hemiparetic due to Encephalic Vascular Accident of both genders in the age of 45 to 78 years, with lesion time less than 08 years. Patients with comprehension deficit plegics, with a lesion time more than 08 years, uncontrolled hypertensive and patients with upper limbs deformities were excluded from this study. After, was scheduled the evaluation that consisted of the application of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment test, Modified Ashworth Scale and Functional Independence Measure. Subsequently, physiotherapeutic care was initiated consisting of 12 sessions, twice a week, for 50 minutes using the mirror therapy. The patients were reevaluated using the same instruments to verify the results achieved and the information were analyzed, descriptively and presented through tables. Results: Of the three participants, two were male and one female, with a lesion time rate of 27.33 months and aged 64.33 years, with a predominance of left hemiparesis. Of all the variables analyzed, an improvement in the score of all scales was observed comparing the results obtained in the before and after treatment. Conclusion: This study showed that the Mirror Therapy was able to promote improvement in the function of the upper limb of the treated patients.
